Got my coins back from ANACS a few days ago and was pretty well pleased with what came back. All came back with what I estimated their grade to be or better. All the coins were common date silver $ plus 2 2010 Proof Silver Eagles that I hoped might come back as PF-70 (they didn't). I submitted: 2 2010 Proof Eagles - Both came back as PF-69 1880-S Morgan - I graded MS-63 - ANACS gave it MS-64 1890 Morgan - I gave it a MS-62 - ANACS gaver is MS-62 1934-D Peace - I gave it AU-55 - ANACS gave it AU-55 1879-S Morgan - I gave it MS-62 - ANACS gave is MS-63 1886 Morgan - I gave it MS-62 - ANACS gave it MS-62 1902-O Morgan - I gave it MS-62 - ANACS gave it MS-64 1901-O Morgan - I gave it MS-62 - ANACs gave it MS-62 1923 Peace - I gave it AU55 - ANACS gave it AU-58 It cost me $100 to get them graded, but I still think it was worth it to validate my own grading eye. If I can get some decent pics, I will post. Freddypm
I'm glad you are happy with the grades you got back...however, ANACS is no longer the TPG they once were. Their grading standards have lost a lot of respect in the community and today don't carry a lot of weight. IMHO, that $100 could have been better spent elsewhere.
If you compare recently graded coins of theirs to PCGS and NGC you will find that they are certainly a second tier TPG. Several years ago, ANACS as a company changed ownership and was moved. When that happened, they redesigned their slab and their grading quality took a dive. Back when they had a white slab with a green label they were comparable to PCGS and NGC in quality. Today, that is long gone. When I buy slabbed coins, I always look at the coin and make my own assessment...however, I have a little security when I buy coins in PCGS or NGC slabs; if I buy a coin in any other company's slab I consider it as equal to a raw coin.
Well.......You may be correct but I think anacs is still a hight quality slabber and they are very reliable....Good to talk to you Camaro...
Several slabs I have gotten lately have been ANACS & I have no problem with them. I think the coins & grade they have are pretty spot on. In the future I wouldnt mind having some of my better raw coins slabbed and most likely it would be ANACS due to being cheaper & not having to mess with joining any service.
I have sent 87 coins to ANACS over the last 3 years and have been pretty pleased with the results. The first coin I sent to them was a 1937 D 3 legged buffalo. Back then they sent you a card with a picture of the front and back of the coin. Wish I had saved that buffalo! Sold it to pay the electric bill or rent back in about 1986! Now the kids are grown and on their own and I looked at a 3 legged buffalo yesterday. If I get another one I'm in a little better shape so this time I may get to keep it longer!
What I will say is I have no problem with people getting coins graded by ANAC's. I will say the newer holder coins it is tougher to find one that compares to NGC and PCGS, but they are out there. The best part of it is you can usually get some nice coins cheaper since they are in an ANAC's holder.
How many of the Morgan Dollar were note/detailed Vam??? Anacs still give you that for FREE on 10 for $10.00 submission to.Ngc & Pcgs won't unless you pay more for details. :kewl:
My amateur 2cents: I agree with people who think that ANACS doesn't compare with PCGS or NGC, in terms of reputation, or "cachet". Usually when I buy an expensive coin, over a few hundred $$ say, I want one in a PCGS or NGC slab (assuming I like the coin, & agree with their grading). But I don't dismiss ANACS, & have owned a couple of ANACS graded coins. I'm not sure their grading is as strict as PCGS tho. And $100 to get that many coins graded? That might get you 3-4 coins graded with PCGS, & then pile on shipping & other fees on top of that......
I love the old, small ANACS holders. And their grading was pretty solid back then. Some folks feel they are a little inconsistent today but shoot, you could say the same thing about NGC and PCGS. Maybe the best reason to use PCGS over ANACS is resale value. Sure, we all know to buy the coin and not the holder but a PCGS slab and a CAC sticker do make a difference, like it or not. And as hard as it is to believe (ahem) many collectors don't know how to grade and rely on the slab. Lance.
Haha...Its true...I dont know how to acuratly grade....but I am not hat advanced as a collector...I just hang around cointak my whole summer...LOL
I think ANACS is a good grading company, and if they had a registry and forums like the other two, and stop changing the holder so much, they would be just as wanted as the other two.
Eric, I agree with you if they had the same features on their web site that PCGS has I would love it. I asked Paul DeFelice at one of the shows in North Texas (ANACS VP of customer relations and marketing) about these features and he said it costs a lot to keep up with it and that PCGS had deeper pockets. I also wish that ANACS would allow you to register your ANACS inventory with them on the web site like you can with PCGS. Maybe some day!
