I am having a hard time assinging a grade to this Indian Head Cent. The luster looks good, but the strike is either very weak, or something else is going on. I'll throw it up for the experts. Thanks.
To me it has the look of a 60-63 coin, that mushy obverse would probably get an overall of 61 or 62...
So you also see weak strike and no wear. That is what had me confused. The lettering is sharp, but the details are weak. Do you think it will pass TPG? I have very little invested in the coin, so if it came back MS, the grading fee is covered. Thanks
EF-45 at best. LIBERTY shows wear as does the hair above the ear. The diamonds on the ribbon are not all there. Even the feathers show wear. Otherwise it is a very nice IHC. The obverse plainly has smoothing from wear all over.
Yeah I think I see both as well. Weak strike and a tad bit of wear above the ear. The photos could be a little clearer so my opinion holds no weight.
I'm no expert.... I'd grade the coin AU 53ish. My thought process as follows: Clear high point wear & field luster. No way this coin is MS. Appears to have too much detail left to be XF, and the required AU luster. Net, low end AU. I am concerned with (a) color -- has the coin been boinked with?, and (b) what's going on around ATE on the obverse. Either of these issues could lower the grade, and I have presumed they are both market acceptable. All IMO, of course. ...Mike
Weakly struck, low AU, IMO. It's a perfectly nice IHC but I'm not sure I'd spend the money to get it slabbed. Lance.
