I forgot to mention, in my last box, I found a really nice 1982 no FG half.

I suggest we just start calling Aggiecollector "King Erin," lol, because, there is no doubt, he is the king of silver treasure hunting.

Incarnate, I missed your text, did you pick up some morgans somewhere?

I did 2 boxes of nickels over the weekend. They may have been the best ones yet, yeilding:

    5 War Nickels
    1 1938 Jefferson
2 Buffalos (1 1930 and one with the date worn off)

    And this guy below:

    1899 V Nickel Obverse.jpg 1899 V Nickel Reverse.jpg

This is only my 3rd V Nickel, and the first one from the 19th Century! I was breathless for a second when I found it. It isn't in great shape, but it is the oldest coin I have found roll searching. I couldn't believe I found something that old in a Brinks box.

This coin was struck when William McKinley was president!

    I love roll searching...

So here's a question. Those of you that have sold some 40% halves recently for upwards of $90 a roll, where are you selling them? Just your local coin shop? I went to my local coin shop and they offered me $3.80 per coin, which would be $76/roll. I called around and the best offer I could find was $4.00/coin, or $80/roll. I mean, spot prices haven't fluctuated more than a buck or two over the past week or so. I may just ebay them I guess.

Went to the bank. Asked for halves, they didn't have any. Asked for $100 in dimes, they looked at me like I was crazy, but gave them to me. The other teller was looking at my $100 bill the whole time thinking it was counterfeit, holding it up in the light and all that... Didn't feel like trying to order a box of halves from that bank after that. I don't have an account there anyway, so whatever. No silver in the dimes. A 5 pence snuck in there though, so a loss of 10 cents.

I know Erin sold some 40%ers to a coin shop down here in Houston a few days ago for $97 a roll. I'm going to be selling 10-12 rolls as soon as I can get $100 for them.

Long lunch break. 7 banks. $95 of halves. I found 2 40%ers......it more than paid for the gas.

Erin and Ryan: One of these finds was a bank with $1800 worth of halves.....I figured it to be a dump bank so I only bought $50. Sure enough, brinks rolls split with a razor blad and taped back up. So, avoid Sterling Bank at 45 and 1960 (that is 3 dump banks in that general area I've found in last 2+ weeks).

    Ryan.....King Solomon for Erin.....LOL

Nothing so far with the 2011 D cents. I bought 1400 cents from a friend of my daughters. Some of the copper looks OK, hope there will be something in that batch.

All right after last weeks skunking I took off the weekend to decide if I was going to move forward of course I would who gets the jones and not keep at it? I think even with all the skunks I think 1 decent and box and I'll be even and above in cost. Yes 16 boxes cost money in gas and time from picking them up and dropping them off. Anyhow I order 2 boxes again this week all from the same banks I got them last week and if I get skunked again I will have to try ne banks then I guess. I also open another new account at a bank I had never heard of but I'm new to my area and they have several branches so why not all they charged was $25 to open the account with no fees. Man I love this it is like when I collected baseball cards but now when I get crap or should I say clad I can return it to the bank and play again.

Lol Iowa must be like in a coin collector recession. I just went to the bank and got 2 Kennedy half dollars, and a roll of dimes.

I just checked the half dollars and it turns out that the 1967 and 1968 half dollars i got are 40% silver. According to http://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html there five dollars melt value.

Oh and the roll of dimes? I got a 1964 dime which is 90% silver according to the same site.

^ not only that but am i the only one seeing just a W and not a E on this coin?

In the Houston area, several shops are paying between $90 and $97. One is paying $80. A couple of jewelry stores are paying $60 and $70 and the pawn shops are paying $40-$50. I called a bunch of places last Saturday before I sold some. These prices are with spot around $36.

I searched my 5th box of halves from Friday's orders. 1 lonely 1967 Kennedy. Out of 5 boxes I got 5 - 40%ers. At least it wasn't a skunk. I sure cooled off from the previous week when I was on fire.

Dimes have been pretty decent. I got a box from Wells Fargo thay yielded 2 Rosies (1950 and 1956).

No more half boxes till Friday. I might hit a few banks if I have time to search for loose at lunch the next few days, but work is very busy. So, I may just try doing 2 boxes of dimes a day till Friday and see what happens.
