My friend gave me a 1935 silver certificate the other day and I was wondering how to properly store the note. I've never done it before. Thanks!
If you have a coin shop near you, you can probably get an archival-quality plastic slipcase that is made specifically for holding currency. Also, like coins, you should not handle it with your bare hands. The oils from your skin can contaminate the paper. Chris
Haha, I don't think I'm too comfortable with that yet. I'll just buy some on ebay or something Thanks though.
ebay is a great place to get these. Another place that is pretty good for these items is Wizard Coin Supply: http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/products/currency-supplies/
Make sure you tell someone you keep them there. I had a guy from a coin club I was in die and his wife sold everything. Unfortunately later we found out she never checked the books, and another club member knew he used to keep his currency in the pages.
Oh, and I have a couple banknotes that I want to show off. So I would like something that can be passed around by people. What would be the best choice? A snaplock? Something hard or plastic.
You should be able to pass around a regular Mylar banknote sleeve. It's still going to be flexible, but can certainly be dropped and handled without worry (unless someone's going to purposely try to fold the thing). Dave
Hmmm... you may be looking for some hard plastic holders, where you sandwich the note in between two pieces. Like these, possibly? I haven't used them myself, but I'd think this may pass the high school test? Dave
unless one order a lot of supply, it's not practical to order from supply dealer, the shipping cost alone is higher than the silver certificate value.
Yeah, they're pretty good. I ordered from them before and got my package in no time at all. Lately I have been using another product I got off of ebay though since I purchased a large lot of them.
I mean, I have other bills that I think are worth a little more than those cases. I know they are sentimentally worth it atleast.
You can get different thicknesses of Mylar-D a more durable film is available similar To what PCGS uses on there second generation holders
