I'm actually one of three which are joined together to form a group to bid and hopefully make a winning bid for this piece. I could not afford to do this alone. I'll let you know how we fare. Between the Stack's Bowers Sale and Presidential's offerings, I'm " all In " for awhile. It's an exciting weekend.
It looks just like the one in my original question where I quoted Larry Moran. The medal is identical. it is 1 7/8" by 2 1/2". The reverse and front look exactly like that one. The only writing on the edges is on the bottom and is "Medallic Art Co. NY". I have a brass metal easal stand and small off white box with the label "Medallic Art Co. New York" printed in gold letter on the inside of the top.
They started making these in 1971. Probably no way to ever know how many were made. These are not rare but they do have value. I have tracked them on ebay over the years and see them go for $20 to $125. To me the $125 price was crazy money. Much like coins the condition changes the value. Having the box and stuff probably adds a bit. I'll take a guess and say it would bring about $50 on ebay right now if the auction had great images and the plaque has not been messed with. I'll start watching for one to come up.
Thanks alot. I collected coins when I was a teenager in the early 70s. When I saw this, I bought it for pray and a song, to long ago to remember. I really liked the piece and was just curious. I do appreciate the responses, I could not find much on it. Thanks KingLucky

I also have both the bronze and silver versions of the MACO medals. Bought the silver one for 10% over melt (from a coin dealer who thought I'd like it!) in 1990. My bronze one came with the original box, stand, and 8-page brochure, see below:
By the way, the bronze plaquettes came in a white box, while the silver ones came in a baby blue box. I don't know what color box the gilt ones came in.
