Was at the store yesterday an picked up a 1855 Napoleon III Empereur Empire Francais Coin in Fine condition for 1.00 it is Dix Centimes.

Can anyone give me more information on this coin. I am new here and find it cool that you can get a coin that is 156 years old for less than a 1967 Dime. I am sure it is probably not worth too much but it a cool coin and I like it

There should be a mint mark under the eagle, what is it?, It really don't matter 1856 was a common year with smallest mintage of the mints at 5 million, probably worth 3 to 5 dollars in fine

I see a lot of these Napoleon III coins from the mid 1850s in the value bins. Usually they are pretty worn and you are lucky if you can read half the letters. I don't have a price guide but I imagine they aren't worth much since there seem to be a lot of them and no one is buying them. I agree though it is neat to get a coin that old that cheap. I have picked up about 15 of these types myself.

I agree that it is a cool find. Many years ago I found a 10 Centimes from that era in a junk bucket at a coin show for 20 cents and was SOOOO excited to find something so old. I now have 100 10 Centimes from France from before 1900 (and a whole lot of 5's and 2's and 1's as well). Some day I'm going to sit down and figure out what I've got and what I need to complete that silly set.
