I've found a few informative websites. Canadian Coin News does some coverage and I make notes in my note book of things to watch out for. But I would like a book researched by people who know more about coins then I do who could point out things I miss. Right now I use Charlton's standard, but I find sometimes it just doesn't cut it. Especially now that they split Charlton's into two books. One for collector coins and one for circulation. Thanks
Yeah, there are a few for sure. Aside from books designated to a certain series that you like, I think your main options are the back 100 pages of the "charlton Standard Catalogues" over the last few years have some great variety info. And then there is the Charest Variety which covers multiple denominations but IMO don't have as good of photos and descriptions as the Charlton catalogues. Though, IMO, if you are willing to look other places than just books, I would suggest picking up the Canadian Coin News newspaper, and fining a forum that is designated to variety hunting. There are a few good ones out there that are specifically targeting collectors that like to cherry pick and collect varieties
Snaz: thank you the Charest Variety one looks exactly like what I was hopeing to find. I do use CCN and write down stuff in my note book but I dont exactly have the space to save every issue or index them for later reference.
Yeah for sure. Be warned that the photos really aren't that great in the Charest Catalogue, and the pricing is even worse. But it does give a general idea of major varieties for the main series.
