As a world coin collector, I have to admit that I haven't been on the forums much recently (Now that I've become capable of idenfitying the countries of my own coins) but there are still a few issues that bring me back... Well, with my kind of collection, the grand majority of it is stored in 2x2 flips and displayed in a binder with pages built for them. Granted, the grand majority of my collection really isn't worth much to consider anything more. But then there are the oddballs... I have a 1996 American Eagle Silver Dollar still in its plastic Littleton Coin Company pockect from when I first started collecting. Even so, the coin itself is visably marked and tarnished. In addition to this, I have 6 Syndey 2000 Olympic $5 Bronze coins, also in their orignal plastic and cardboard casing. Whereas the bulk of my collection is in the binder (binders now, actually), and easily referenced, these seven are inside a small box, which itself is inside a box where I toss all my miscellaneous supplies. So I suppose I'd like an opinion as to weather it is resonable to keep these coins outside of the traditional coin flips. Otherwise, is there a better way to display them? Preferably staying within the binder system. The Silver Dollar I can forsee somebody recommending that I get slabbed, but I've never really considered myself the type to go that far.
Welli f you dont want to slab then you could allways use a coin capsule and display in a coin tray, there are some rather nice stackable ones available :smile De Orc :thumb:
If you can locate an airtite that will accommodate your coins I may have an answer to your display need.
The Aussies are actually individually stored in what I suppose could be considered airtight, two plastic halves each the size of the coin. They're all about the size of a US Silver Dollar. (Though as I write this now I tried putting the Dollar into one of the Aussie cases, it doesn't quite fit ;P) It's the Aussies that I'd like to get in the binder, if nothing else.
You can get airtights in variouse sizes and also you can get inserts that help hold the coins if they are a odd size :thumb: De Orc
Tre, I like Air-Tites too. They're actually a brand of holder. They're nice...a two half plastic case with an inert foam ring to secure the coin. You can look at them on this website http://www.air-tites.com/ , but many, many coin dealers sell them too.
