This coin came to me from an estate that I have been working on. I am having trouble finding anthing out about it. The "N" in California is reversed. It is the same size as a quarter dollar gold piece. ToddGC 001.JPG ToddGC 002.JPG Any information would be helpfull. Thanks in advance. Leland.

The size of a "quarter dollar" part makes it sound like a big replica of a California Pioneer Gold Charm. Look for some indication of a denomination, a slash mark, something. The pic was hard to view at center where such info might be.

From first glance, you have a Indian Oct, 1852. Since there is no denomination, Charm comes to mind. Though, many charms have "charm" on the reverse.

    Do you own it?

Check on the internet for California gold fractionals, California Territorial Gold, Cal Gold Tokens. These keys phrases should get you in the neighborhood you are seeking.

I errored by saying quarter dollar, it is the same size of a one dollar coin.Measures real close to 3/8" across. The center of the reverse just has the date 1852. There are no slash marks on it or any indication of denominaton.

It is not unusal for a Period One California Fractional to not have a date, but to not have a denominiation is another matter. Sorry, this is over my head, expertise wise.

I collect Cal Fractionals, and I am still learning. Maybe check out some of the threads listed at the bottom of this page. Perhaps, those guys might be of more help.

    Goodluck.

None of the Period One (1852-57) fractionals had an Indian.
