Details grades mean nothing...I would personally prefer the "Genuine" slab myself.

Why's that? "Genuine" is just a generic term in this case-- doesn't matter if the coin is nearly slick or nearly uncirculated. Speaking from experience, a Details grade from NGC or ANACS greatly assists in its sale.

Maybe i can send some better photos because some say cleaned some say not. From pics i have seen online of this coins many of them are covered in contact marks. Also looking up this date on some sites most say new orleans gold pieces were known fow their luster being " subdued by contact marks even on mint pieces.

ohhh ok sounds good ill keep it in mind to check on it. I read the pcgs description and it said most 1842-o are riddled with marks due to poor care at mint...im hoping it isnt cleaned and is maybe just abused a little lol. thanks again

Submit it to NGC instead if PCGS

PCGS will just certify the coin as genuine, but NGC will give it a details grade, if you want to know the grade, and they will mention the problem on the slab. If you want that, you could submit to NGC, or even ANACS.

i actually did send it to ngc actually because i jut like their holders and i have a membership only to them. I jut did it reently because of work but i took it to a two coin dealers before one said it may have been lightly cleaned xf. And another actually said it was an xf and just circulated heavily not cleaned so i am crossing my fingers but i think it will come back xf details.but i have seseen stranger things happen. I will keep the thread up to date
