Hi, i am unable to upload photo's. Hopefully soon i will learn how to do it soon.. I have a Question about Indian head cent. I recently found a 1877 Indian head cent, i already have one in very good condition. And i know what the red book and blue book value is on it. But the one just got is in very poor condition. You are able to see the date, partly worn! the legend's are 3/4 worn away, the reverse is in good condition. The Question is dose it have any value? Even if it don't, i know it is still a good coin to have, because they are so rare..... Thank you...
First of all, NEVER follow Red/ Blue Book prices. Second, we will need pics to determine its authenticity.
No, it has no value whatsoever. Send the coin to me and I will dispose of it properly. Welcome to CoinTalk. By the way, my answer was a poor attempt at humor. Pay no attention it it. If your coin is genuine it absolutely has value.
I have seen some pretty poor 1877's, I think the cheapest, for a dark corroded one that you could barely make out a date was 250.
1877 is the key coin for Indian Head Cents. That said, there are many fakes out there. If you could post a photo we could give you a better idea of authenticity and value.
Camaro is right on here.....the KEY phrase is 'give you a better idea'....one can't ascertain a definitive grade, or truly state authentication, from an image, but an image CAN, and in this case, WOULD be, most helpful in giving you the best opinion on all info you seek. If you can't get an image to upload......tuck it away, until you know when you'll be going to, or at least be going by, a coin shop, and get what info you can from the coin shop. Never sell right away if the shop gives an offer on a coin you are not sure about. Get the opinion, LEARN HOW TO POST AN IMAGE, post it here, gather all the info and make an informed, educated decision on what to do. I think the consensus would heartily agree with what chip stated. If authentic, even almost slick, corroded 1877 IHC will command decent $$ (a couple $250-$300, or maybe more for a problem coin is pretty good...it'll give you a good head-start on a nice coin you've been looking for/wanting).
Any 1877 is worth something, but from your description, it's most likely AG-3 or worse, but still commands a premium. I've seen some go for as little as $200, to as much as $500 on ebay. I'm not a professional coin grader, but have collected cents for 30+ years, so have some idea of what to look for, but would have to see a detailed picture to know a little more in order to give you additional information. Either, congrats on the 1877!
HI,, I went to a coin dealer i know, he said is was the real thing.. This guy is not a certified grader but he really know's coins. He said he would say it was an AG, and said if i was looking to sell it (which he knew i was'nt) he would give me $90, and i asked him how much would he resell it for, he said probally aroud $200. So you guy's here; i know you need to see the cent, as soon as i get a camera and learn how to upload things, i'll show you. Dose it sound right if he's telling the truth, from what you all know about the coin, without seeing it?
Take some good, quality pics and toss it on eBay with a 7 day return policy. You'll probably catch at least $200 for it.
