Many, many moons ago I posted a bunch of stuff I and others found in error in the 2006 Red book. I also, sent a copy to Whitman. They were really nice and thanked me. A few days ago I found another what appeared to be an error so I contacted them again. Again they thanked me and mentioned all such errors have been corrected and the 2007 Edition will be shown at the Atlanta coin Show on April 6, 2006. So if anyone out there is going to that show, please look for it and let us know how it looks. See if they'll sell you one.
I kinda remember that topic. You were discussing the virtues of the RedBook against other sources for coin value and population information. I hope they credit you with the corrections. Good Job Ben
Don't think I'll get a free book out of it though. Actually it wasn't just me. Seams like everytime I mentioned an error in that book to someone, they pointed out another one to me. I just accumulated them all.
Just in case nobody has realized it yet - the 2007 Red Book will be the 60th Anniversary Edition. It may well turn out to be as collectible as the coins listed inside.
I have found so many errors in that book that I will not buy it. And no they will not stand behind there work and send a corrected copy, I tried. I dont understand whats so difficult about getting the mintage numbers right, I mean for instance a 1931s dime had a mintage of 1,800,000 mil., it will never change, thats it, whats the problem? Just fix it instead of year after year of errors!
Perhaps yor referring to another coin cause I always thought 1,800,000 was the total in circulation. Then again maybe my mind has been tainted by the RB's erroneous information for sooo many years Bone
1931S has 1,800,000? No wonder I can't get them all. Now if I suspected there were at least 1,800,001 I wouldn't even try to get them all. Just found some more errors in pricing in that book the other knight going through a set of coins for price evaluation. However, if the 2007 is now in print, it's toooooooo late. There was one issue with a missing page and I think that one is worth more because of that. So actually instead of not buying one because of all the errors, I would think everyone would be tryingto get as many as possible. Just like an error coin, the value may go up.
Possibly to late but again I just contacted Dennis Tucker of Whitman Publishing about more errors in teh 2006 Edition of the Red Book. I've been doing a little inventory work of my collection and have been using the Red Book as a GUIDE. However, with the massive error rations I'm beginningto think this is not a good idea. For example, if anyone cares, on page 324 it states there are S mint coins in the Uncirc sets from the Mint for 1968 to about 1981. These were Proofs only. And for laughs check out the prices of the half dollars on Page 214 for 1896 to 1908 in the AU50 to MS65 columns.
