I ordered and received a 2011 uncirculated set of the atb quarters. These come in a blue folder with the quarters for both the denver and Philly enclosed in plastic or whatever material they use. The problem I'm having is that the set was squeezed into a box that was really too small for it. So the folder has wrinkles in it. Nothing wrong with the quarters themselves. Just the packaging. To me, it seems this is part of their display. But, I really don't know if I'm just being too picky or not? If I go to the trouble of returning them, what are the odds that the next set I get will be received the same way?
Can't answer for you. If you are unhappy then return them and try again. And only you can determine if it is worth the trouble.
PBGS has made an attempt to standardize their shipping containers so I expect that if you return youe set that you will receive another set in excetly the same container type. Whether or not its wrinkled remains unseen. I need to ask, why buy these from the US Mint instead of the cheaper aftermarket?
Gee, I never even thought about the aftermarket. It was just an impulse when I bought the last ATB 5 oz.
I would send it back and note the specific issue on the return form. Even though the coins are fine, if you are not happy with the OGP now that is not likely going to change if you hang onto it (in fact your dissatisfaction will probably increase over time). TC
The folder is part of the presentation and possible future resaleability if you ever wanted to unload them. I would probably send them back and request some in a new folder.
It is tough to decide because you have to pay postage to return- the problem is that they are likely to send out another defective one and you have to pay postage on that also. On a low price item like this it may not be worth it. I had to return a gold spouse twice (about $17 total in postage) on an expensive coin you can justify the expense. It is VERY VERY frustrating to deal with the USMint they have NO quality control - none- nada. I just do not know what to tell you- the mint used to pay for return postage AND they used to have good quality control- now they neither pay return postage and they have eliminated QC.
Ahh. You could always order 50 and return 49 of them. Wait...........the folks at PCGS probably have a hammer to fit em all into that one little box. Never mind!
Let's not forget that the US Mint DOES have quality control but their products are sent to PBGS for shipping. That is where the problem lies as PBGS tries to streamline their operations (they are new at this you know as they only started handling the US Mint products within the past two or three years) by standardizing all their shipping containers. Some of the products simply will not fit those boxes and the US Mint should know about it. You could try calling the US Mint line and registering a complaint. If that doesn't work then there's always the Office of Public Affairs which might work. There's a number floating around here somewhere but I have no idea where. The US Mint contracts out the packaging and shipping of their products and if the customers are not happy then they will respond as that contract needs to be renewed.
I haven't tried it personally, but I've read here on CT that you can get shipping costs refunded for a returned/exchanged product if you call their customer support after receiving the replacement. If so, I don't see any reason NOT to return something you're not 100% in love with. Is that not the case?
