I'm looking for information for 5 mk 1943. This coins are in aluminum and alum-mag. In catalog Krause is info. about diameter D-22 mm, but do not have weight. I have this coins with D 22mm, and weight are 0,8 g and another one 0,7 g, but in internet I found info about same coins have D 22,5 mm, and weight is 1,57 please help me out here
Hello. In polish coins catalogues Al coin is 22,5mm and 1,57g. For Al-Mg pieces 22,7mm and 1,03g. By the way in Krause publications you can find mistakes on every page. These coins were struck in very prymitive conditions that's why you can find loads of imperfections like thickness of flank or struck deepness. Al-Mg coins are usually in bad grade and scarcer.
5 mark with 800 000 mintage is kind a common coin. I saw loads of copies 20 mark coins. If this is fake it can be only second type- lodzkie. It's very dangerous fake and we will need very good photo of reverse with date.
thanks to everyone for information, but I really confused about this number of 32 millions coins for Poland Lodz Ghetto. The Litzmannstadt Ghetto was one of the largest on Polish territory (second to Warsaw ghetto). It existed for the longest period of time. It was established in February 1940 and liquidated in August 1944. The Jews imprisoned in the Litzmannstadt Ghetto throughout its existence consisted of a total number of 200,000 men, women and children. According to the German policy only Jews capable of work could stay in the ghetto. Those who were not able to work were sent to the death camp in Kulmhof am Ner (Chełmno nad Nerem). There the Germans killed 80 000 Jews there. On August 9, 1944 first transport from Litzmannstadt to Auschwitz took place. Deportees were informed that they were going deep into the Third Reich. In reality they were sent straight into the gas chambers in Auschwitz-Birkenau. Until August 29, 1944 the Germans deported the remaining Litzmannstadt Ghetto inhabitants in number of 67 000.According to Arnold Mostowicz estimation there were approximately 12 000-15 000 survivors. The Litzmannstadt Ghetto was liquidated. Only 800 Jews appointed to cleaning were left. Most of them survived.
My point is , even comparing the numbers of people and coins looks really off, for me. It was very dangerous and brutal place , I found hard to believe , that Mint Ghetto money was easy thing to do. What is from this information?
sorry that was mistake with mintage. It's not warsaw fake. In lodzki fake you need to compare with original coin. Especially check shape of date and stars. This coiuns are usually thicker with different weight.
Well, I am not asking is my coin fake or not, I'm asking for source of information for this coins, mintage, weight,d, how thick is it, and etc. also I'm wonder, is any another variety with weight and etc exist ? even, if my coin is fake, I do not believe in this fact, that people who make them did not do any research for this, why to make something, that are far from original coins, the differences are huge, besides the point this coins never were common in first place.
5 mark coins where minted by jewish self-government in getto. Mint ( Metallabteilung I) on Zgierska 56 street later moved to Lagiewnicka 63 street. Emission started 22.02.1944 and ended 02.09.1944. Designer-Pinkus Szwarc , engraved by Morduch Glezer. Mintage 800 000 for both Al and Al-Mg coins. You have diameter and weight in first post. There shouldn't be so big difference in weight. Some coins are thicker than the others it's normal in this case. You can also find differences in struck deepness. 5 mark is the commonest of getto coins. That's all i know.
Is anybody has any piece of information? or any knowledge about this? please share! I really would like to figure this out!
Ah, I just wrote about these coins elsewhere, so let me post two links here. Guy Franquinet (a dealer and authentication expert) wrote a book about the Litzmannstadt Ghetto and its coins which could be interesting in this context. Here are a couple of sample pages (mostly in Polish) from the publishing house's website. Also, you can view some more pages at Google Books, mostly in English and German. Christian
thanks a lot,Christian! I was confused before that, now I'm lost table content 10, that what I need about monetary , I could not see, you allowed to see just part of book, not all.
