I am new to this forum. This is my first post and first picture. I got my 2010 P Yellowstone 5 oz coin from Mint a few days ago. Looks great I love it. My coin has some doubling. I'm not sure if it is machine or what. I have done some research and its complicated. IF it is Machine doubling does that increase or decrease value. Will it lower the grade if I send it in? Any input would be great.
does that mean they all have it. If they don't all have it how many do have it. And does it effect the grade or value? Is this a good example of Machine doubling or something else?
Machine doubling would not produce the effect in all 4 directions as ( for instance) in the "U". The appearance of doubling top, bottom, left , and right, tends to indicate a truncated font, wider on the bottom than the top. This was probably done to reduce pressure needed and damage over time to the die, if the letter was straight vertical. I don't collect them and only checked the thread for the variety possibility, but I would bet they are all that way. Jim
The effect you are seeing is indeed machine damage doubling and of the two that I've seen in hand, it appears to affect this coin. It would not be grade limiting IMO. Check out this thread from the PCGS Forums: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=818167
Still a very nice coin. My only question if there is no doubling than why does George's face have doubling to it? Might be something to do some research in...
