There is a ebay seller who has sold at least a thousand pcgs graded coins with all types of crazy toning? How does he get all of these? Are they toned artificialy after grading? I dont get how he has an endless supply of crazy toned graded coins.
There is an Ebay seller in Florida that sells slabbed toned coins also. Not crazy circus clown colors but more of soft pastel colors. Especially Morgans. After awhile you can get on EBAY and without even reading who the seller is, you can pick all of his coins out of thousands available because they all look the same. Same colors and same patterns. Someone once mentioned that coins can be toned while still in the slab, but I don't see how that is possible. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. So who knows. Anyway, I just pass over any coin that looks suspect to me and refuse to ever buy anything from the seller that offers it. Not saying I'm an expert. Just saying I know what I like. If I see a toned coin I may be somewhat interested in, I go into the sellers other items for sale and look at those to see if they are toned the same way.
There are reputable dealers who only work with toned coins, one even frequents this forum. I've seen his listings on ebay, and they're always stunning toners. Do I believe he sells AT coins? No chance. Are there others who do? Absolutely.
Let's give sellers credit when it is due. Not dealers in raw coins, selling stuff that has been shaken and baked. But those who have worked hard at finding genuine toned coins in nice condition and color who pay a premium to acquire pretty PCGS and NGC slabbed coins, hoping to sell them at some (small?) profit. If the coin is in a PCGS slab then your risk is minimal. If you like it how it looks can you lose? The PCGS guarantee is pretty solid. Don't denigrate a seller because he has a nice supply of colorful PCGS-graded coins. On the contrary, find one you like and be comfortable knowing you won't get ripped off. Lance.
Seller in Massachucetts sells on ebay constantly. (Can't remember his name) Lots of toners that are just gorgeous. Spendy, but probably worth it.
