Original bank roll 2011-P dimes... Yes, I know the coin has roller damage, but what's the other stuff?
After a few minutes of checking this out, I'm positive it's a strike through... open the rolls and pull 'em all out or what? It would be really awesome to find a retained strike-through.
The marks on his face/neck/etc. They're incuse and have no raised edges, which leads me to believe this coin was struck through some kind of debris. This coin has never circulated, came out of a box of 2011-P dimes, and is still in the original roll.
Your pics are not the sharpest. but my take is that it was a messed up planchet before the strike. From what I can make out, I cannot say you are wrong. I am pretty sure that it is not PMD.
AMPD I think, which is after minting process damage which happens when coins hit each other at the mint and from the rolling.
But the marks have no raised edges and aren't just straight, they look almost like threads. Gonna bust the rolls open tomorrow and see what comes out.
Merc, you do realize that a strikethrough is a onetime occurrence, and it is very unlikely that there would be others in the roll. That doesn't mean there couldn't be other errors. Who knows, maybe Pigpen was tending the press that day. Chris
Almost looks to be struck through wire. I just saw a $2.5 Gold Sesquicentenial Commem. with these similar markings. Was in a "MINT ERROR" holder. You may have a keeper here, Merc. The possbile strikethrough that catches my eye in particular is the one on the bust's (FDR's) neck. DEFINITELY looks like 'struck through wire'. -Brian
