I have a 1974 D Lincoln cent that appears to be missing some hair on top of Lincoln's head. All else seems to be normal with this coin except Lincoln's head also appears to be a bit smaller than normal and his neck is slightly longer than normal. Other than that there is no heavy wear on the coin. Does anyone know this to be a common error? I can't find any information on this. Picture attached. Not sure if it will turn out very good. Will try again if not.
Looks like an overly polished die. If I might make a suggestion, if you crop your pics when you scan them,to just the coin itself they will show up much bigger and it will be easier for members to answer your questions. And welcome to Coin Talk!
lincolnfan, you really must provide as with larger photographs. We cannot assist you to the furthest extent possible without clear, inhanced quality photographs. -Brian
Thank you for your suggestions. I'll keep working on posting the pics. I coudn't seem to get it any larger without turning into large pixel field. When I clicked on the thumbnail and then clicked again it seemed to enlarge enough. So I'm still working on all of the variations and terminologies of error coins, is an overly polished die pretty common?
