Hello, well we all know what it is as far as visual goes, but technicallyspeaking, what is it?

What makes the actual metal shine? Is it the way the surface structured? orsomething more like the content of the metal itself? Do you know of any threadthat already discusses this subject? Maybe humongous pictures?

    Good link, Siggi. Thanks!

Here are a couple of close-ups of Morgan dollars taken with the stereomicroscope that show the flow lines which produce luster and the subsequent cartwheel effect.

Is it spelled out "L-U-S-T-E-R"? I've spelled it "L-U-S-T-U-R" my entire collecting career. Haha! :)

If spelling counted in this forum, no one would be allowed to post.:too-funny:

That isn't true! I just wouldn't be having a conversation with too many people.

Well, since I've spelled it that way for years, I think I will continue to spell it that way. Old habits usually die slow for me and the transition may be difficult so I'll just stick with the old. Out with the new! :)

I don't quite mind, all of the folks here spell it incorrectly, it's lustre.

Very true, very true. I should spell "THEATER" as "THEATRE" from now on. Reminds me of my 8th grade algebra teacher. That is the only thing I remember about it. Why that is, I don't know why.
