Yesterday. I like each one for a certain reason. I'll post up the grades and what I paid for all three in a couple days. Sorry about the different sizes of the pictures, I'll fix that later, I'm in a bit of a hurry right now.

1945-S... Had trouble capturing the toning.

Like the toning on the reverse of the 1945-s. Looks like the 1944-D is Full Bands. I suck at grading but I am going to guess:

    1945-S = MS 65
    1944-D = MS 66 FB
    1939-D = MS 65

    Here are my grades:

    A+
    A+
    A+

I am less than a novice at grading so I'm just going to say I like all 3 of these, especially the last one. But then again, I love toned dimes so I really like the first one, too.

I know nothing about mercs, but I am going to say MS-65 for first and third and 66 on the second. I can see luster on the first two, but the third it looks flat and could be the pictures. The second is FSB, not sure about the first, but third is not FSB. I like the toning on the reverse of the first coin, but not on the obverse(too dark for me in the picture). I like the second coin the best because of the luster showing in the picture. Nice additions no matter what the grades are.

    Let's see, I'll go with:

    MS 65 FSB
    MS 65

1945-S = MS64 FB The obverse shows just a little wear above the eyebrow and around the ear. Very poor eye appeal.
The reverse ,on the other hand , looks flawless and saves the merc dime from being an AU coin. IMHO

1945-D = MS69 FB Both obverse and reverse are flawless to me. But I don't know enough to grade this merc MS70. IMHO

1939-D = MS69 FB Same explanation as above. Both 'D mint ' merc are Gorgeous. IMHO

Firstly, Merc, awesome pick ups! I am such a sucker for the, what I call "art era" of U.S. coins. By that I mean the Winged, Walking, and Standing Liberties, Morgan dollars and Peace dollars. Those are some beautiful pieces!

If I had to guess, I would say #1 is somewhere around AU58? I know this is probably low, but the obverse just looks a bit...haggard but has nice detail. However, the reverse I would say is easily BU if not MS62. Hard for me on that one.

    #2 I would say MS63, possibly 64.

    #3 I will guess is maybe MS65 to 66

Also, I myself am hoping to pick up two Winged Liberties on Tuesday. a 1942 and a 1944. Both plain if memory serves. I am told they are MS63 and 64, but we shall see.

On a side note, I know this is off topic, but I find that some of you have funny name/avatar combos. For instance, Dimeguy has a picture of the reverse of a Franklin half-dollar, Merc Crazy has the picture of a Morgan dollar obverse =D This is not meant to be rude, just an observation that I find humorus (sp?).

I absolutely agree on point #1, the "art" era (I'll refer to it as the Gaudens era) ushered in the most beautiful coinage this country has ever owned.

and I have also noticed dimeguy and his frankie, as well as the conundrum exposed by my username/avatar combo. Once I can manage decent pics of the reverse of the 45-S, that may change. We'll see. :)

Looks like I'm a little low compared to other people. I'm interested in what they actually got.

    Very nice coins Merc.

Edit: I didn't guess wether they are Full Bands or not because I suck at spotting them. The grades I posted are those with or without FB.

lol...well, you see I had a pic of one of my FSB Mercs as my avatar when I was filling out the last of that set. Once the set was complete I moved on to Franklins and the avatar I have is a FBL reverse that I acquired. Although, I guess I could put up a full torch Roosevelt just for compliance sake with my username...nah. I'll stick with the current collection interest :)

First two might be a grade better and it's hard to see for sure if that first one is fb from the pict IMO.
    Nice ones though.

    Well, these guesses were pretty much all over the place. I think that's more an indictment of my photography skills, not your guys' grading skills. Here's the slabs;

    1945-S

    1944-D; Some glare on the slab, it's a 66FB.

I bought the '45-S for the toning. It's pretty nice in hand, and for $15, you can't really go wrong.

The '44-D was a gem coin in an old slab, might have an outside shot at upgrading, it really is a beauty that is dripping with luster. $40

And lastly, the '39-D. Bought it pretty much because it was in an old PCGS 2 slab and I didn't have one yet. $15

I can believe the first 2, but what is with the 39-D? Is it really that flat?
