I'm not so sure that your coin is a counterfeit-- it is fairly common Chinese cash coin. I have 2 or 3 of that particular type myself. Anyway, your coin appears to be from the Dao Guong era (1821-1851) of the Qing Dynasty. http://www.seaeaglecoin.com/daoguang2.html
Are you sure yours are real 1966? Angels does'nt have the right wear, and people dont usually give these away for free...
At the recent coin show I attended in Tokyo, dealers were selling these in bags for the equivalent of 30 cents each. If you look in the 1801-1900 Krause World Coins catalog under China, Chekiang Province, Cash, ND (1820-51), you can find this type of coin listed for a quarter or so.
Original coin looks good. Emperor Xuan Zong, Dao Guang tong bao. Hartill 22.578, Board of Revenue, East branch. 1824-1850. Value ~$1
Coin collecting is a learning experience for all of us Anyway, here are some of my cash coins. Two of them are similar to Angel's
Zach, yours is worth a bit more. R12-14 compared to the OP's R16, I would guess $2-$5. Puyi(1909-12), Xuan Tong tong bao. Board of Revenue, West branch mint. H#22.1513(R14) if ~19mm, H#22.1515(R12) if ~24mm.
