george v 1993 penny, fake or not? after a chat with a fellow uk member about the rare 1933 george v penny, i thought it would be interesting to ebay it, so it came up with this- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1933-VERY-RARE-1933-ONE-PENNY-GEORGE-V-/280682792248?pt=UK_Coins_OtherBritish_RL&hash=item4159ff8538 listed as a fake, yet people are bidding high amounts on it, am i missing something here? rich
People who think it might be real, despite the stated opinions of the seller and his collector friend. It's possible the seller is a very clever person. He says he thinks the coin is a fake, while he claims he found it in a jar full of pennies. That pretty much eliminates the buyer having any grounds to demand a refund, while giving the impression that the coin was retrieved from circulation along with many others. Thus the possibility the seller is wrong and it's a genuine coin seems more plausible.
the coin is obviously a fake as any collector with a grain of sense knows, the mintage figures for this coin are 6 yes six, and all of them are accounted for, a real one would set you back in the region of around £500,000. how can any serious collector say that "in my opinion it is a fake" and the seller must be rubbing his hands with delight at all the fools bidding on this item.........read my signature and you will see the esteem this coin is held in by serious UK collectors..
You are opening the door to all kinds of problems, First of all destroying your 100% feedback because even with the description in the listing the person can still give you a neg. I think this is not worth the mess this can end up being
exactly siggi when fakes are normally listed they are usually fairly common coins but something like the 1933 penny is stupid to list with the anomollies this person has insinuated in the description. he should be banned from ebay for such a listing.
I dont think he was trying to be dishonest, He does state in the description that it´s fake. I´m just saying that because he is selling a fake he is opening the doors to whole lot of problems. I agree with Ikandiggit it should be in the header fake....
Maybe people just want it as a curiousity? I've seen people selling acknowledged reproductions of rare coins on eBay. I always wondered personally why anyone would buy them, but there must be some kind of market out there. But then again the price on this one is higher than you'd expect someone to pay for a curiousity that isn't worth anything.
it is like the cheat who keeps listing 25p crowns as £5 coins, the title of the listing is deliberately misleading so as to catch out the unsuspecting and in experienced collectors.
Yes, a lack of brain cells. You obviously have too many brain cells to be fooled by this auction. (Congratulations)
that was the one from under the foundation stone of a church in leeds the thieves removed the stone to get at the coin, which is firmly believed to be in the collection of a well known british collector, but there is no cast iron proof. so really they are all accounted for.........lol
Your not the well known collector who has it are you john? Lol. Unless this is a real coin with an alterd date then it is illegal and should be reported
