As always, a good answer. Where do you see it weakly struck? (I'm pulling out my proofs now to compare). BTW for a guy who doesn't collect US coins, you seem to know every detail of every type Ruben
Grading No one can grade a coin accurately by the use of a photo, you need to have the coin in your hands. You have to be able to turn the coin in the light, and from different angles, to get a true grade. And that grade is only your opinion mine might be different.Or that's the way it seems to me.
Look at the rays of the sun, 2nd and 3rd from the right in particular. That's the easiest to see. The gown details aren't full either. But I agree that on first glance it is a very clean coin. Ahhhh well, I read about 'em once
I know, and that's how I took it, besides that I agree with you. When I responded to your post I meant to add a big grin at the end - forgot that part
Thanks for the smaller photos....I say MS68 GDJMSP knows more about us coins than most people I know. If you go back you will see that he collected and researched US coins just as much or more than world coins. GDJMSP played a large part in my first years of collecting--- He wouldn't say this about himself....but I'll say it.....he really goes by his line....knowledge ..... share it and he has shared that with many collectors. If you can see any break in the luster, nick, tiny scratch, etc with the naked eye, I highly doubt it would grade a MS70. Even if it grades a MS68/69 I wouldn't send it in. Just isn't worth it to me. My MS69 eagle from PCGS has two big gashes on her out stretched arm. Very nasty hits.
Gdjsmp, has a lot of good info. For someone who does not collect U.S, he surely knows a lot. Anytime he speaks I listen. Keep up the good work. CLAW
Well that makes no sense to me. The reason I plucked out ths coin was because I saw not a single mark on it. The strike problem with the rays, however, is obvious. We had earlier threads about the problems with the AGE 2006 Satin finishes. This coin was perfect in that regard, so I thought I'd ask Ruben
Your total right....and since this one doesn't have it I'm wondering if this is one of the first ones struck....OR if the Mint has now fixed that problem and only ones minted at the first of the year have that problem. Some here had stated that it was just where the coins dropped on each other.....but I find it hard to take that when coins all around the US have the same marks in the same place. Speedy
