A while back I had talked with Duke K and we decided to make a Thread that is just Star Notes only. I think this thread will serve a dual purpose and be pleasing to the eye as well as informative for new and existing collectors. So now is the opportunity to archive here in the Paper Money Forum you most coveted star notes from days gone by right up until yesterday. I suppose I will kick it off with my "only known 1934C New Back graded Boston Star"...so lets keep this thread going and build a superior reference thread for Small Size Star Notes of USA. Notes can be Fed Reserve Notes, Legal Tenders, Fed Reserve Bank Notes (brown Seal), Gold notes, and Silver Certs. This note is Graded as Gem New 65PPQ ** I have posted this before, just a kick off point**
Man, I can't wait to get home and start posting my stars. None are graded, but all are special to me!
Steve: By all means post more than once.... I have several more to scan and post as well.. Hope this thread covers a wide range of SS Stars.. RickieB
Totally new to collecting and just got this from the bank 3 hours ago...Just found out stars are more rare (wish I had known ten years ago). Maybe OP could offer some background info on stars for us newbies? Also what's a good resource for gauging a bills value?
Here is my favorite star note. This is a 2003 Philadelphia $5 star, from a run of 640,000. A nice crisp circulation find.
Kingdom, star notes are replacement notes. When a note in a sequential series gets damaged during printing, the Bureau of Engraving & Printing replaces it with a star note rather than reprinting the exact same serial number. Not all are rare but they are scarce and carry a premium. As for gauging the value of star notes, I'll leave that for someone else to answer. It does depend on the condition of the note, just as with all paper money.
Time for a brown seal Star; You can read more about STAR NOTES here; http://www.uspapermoney.info/general/number.html
These 1999 Richmond star sheets are the only series stars sheets for the one dollar denomination I've seen for modern-era (1963 thru current) currency. This 4-subject sheet has some selvage remaining at the top of the sheet. .....and, yes Clay, those solid stars are wonderful.
Great Blue Stars Clay... I will scan my Blue Stars and post later..as I am having some work done to my other computer. SteveInTampa... Just a Fantastic sheet!! RickieB
