Posting a few of these. Not perfect shape. Been locked up a while. Still going through the Ps and Ds etc.
I filled a Whitman’s folder so I had them. I still rolling quarters and turning them into the bank. I have a hundred dollars waiting to go now and I have lots more than I’m still working on. So far I’ve gotten over $600 dollars, which I spent on other, more valuable coins.
Our bank has a coin counter. I have turned some loose change before. I mean just so many. And I’m not a seller or a buyer. Of course some of the interesting ones and ones I know my son would want. Y’all are the “big wigs”.
I have a bunch of wheaties that my wife wants me to get rid of, before I croak. Plus about $25 + of dug wheaties. Ugh.
Well it’s either the bank or your wife will bring them. Someone might be able to buy from you. Lol! Stop! Lol!
I've been hoarding nickels and dimes for 20 years. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500 worth. It's crazy so it may be time to cash in and complete my Lincoln cent collection with that 1909 svdb!
I fell asleep last night and I just woke up. I roll them so as not to lose money on a counting machine.
I don’t have near that much, at least I don’t think so. I’m on the last of the dimes and I filled a lot of holes. Haven’t touched the nickels or cents and about three fourths of the quarters are done. Amazing how many holes I filled. I keep all of the silver and I’ve filled many folders with all the junk silver I have. A few months ago I filled a Whitman’s Mercury Dime folder with the only exception of the 1916-D. I had all the others in bags of junk silver.
I'd spend what's not collectible and without silver in it. The 1983 purchasing power of a quarter is now 8 1/3 cents. You are losing to inflation just holding them.
My better half has a pile of 1776/1976 centennial Q,H,D. The subject comes up when they get moved around about converting to gold/silver based coinage. She like the different look of that year and nothing changes. If it Brings a little joy, have at it.
I've mentioned this before on this forum, years ago. My mother was a waitress all her life and was able to accumulate roughly 16 or 17 large coffee can's of these bicentennial quarters between the years 1983 - 1988. I remember being at the restaurant after closing and she'd go through all the quarters and put her own quarters in exchange for all the bicentennials. Do you have any idea how heavy a large coffee can full of quarters is? She had all the cans stacked staggered two high up against the wall in her walk-in closet. Eventually she ended up rolling them all over a very long period of time, brought them to the bank, changed them into paper money and then she went out and bought a base model 3rd gen Chevy Camaro with the money. While she was collecting them, she thought that they would be worth more some day. Never happened.
Wonderful story! When I was working at the bank, I remember one man in particular. The teller called me up. She asked what should I do? I said, we are a bank, exchange or deposit his coins lol! He saved for a down payment on his home.
Pam, if your son is into collecting, I'd roll and save the pre-1998 quarters. Already there are some getting above face on eBay, so if he hangs onto them, they could net him a little profit in the future, and maybe allow him to purchase a coin he really wants. Just think about the fact that the mint will never make anymore of them.
