I like this coin, but not the price. Are the errors correct? does this make what I see as a $65 coin triple in value? I see a coin that is XF-AU instead of BU, & also one that will stay listed for quite some time. But I'm still pretty new to this, anyone have any insight? http://cgi.ebay.com/1865-3C-Nickel-...96?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item56444b73d4
I agree this coin looks AU. I do not know anything about the die clashes though. So I am not sure what type of premium that would add.
I see at least two sets of clash marks on the obv and three sets on the reverse. There is a die crack through the top of STATES. The doubling in the lettering is Longacre doubling. The missing top of the D is from a broken hub. Every die made from that hub will show the same broken D and every coin made from those dies will as well, so it really is no premium. The Longacre doubling is no premium. The die clashes are probably no premium because it is harder to find a nickel three cent WITHOUT clashes than one with them, same goes for the die crack. The coin is better than a XF. It is at least AU and might even be MS but that can't be told from pictures. I'd say it is definitely worth AU money, maybe low MS money. I wouldn't go higher than that with the restocking fee because I may have to return it. So I would say it may be worth $100, or about half what he is asking.
