The Obverse looks like a weak strike that is now overshadowed by severe Post Mint damage! I can't tell too much about the Reverse but it looks like there are sunken areas around some of the Lettering which I believe would indicate a poorly prepared copper coating. Frank
Hi, It looks like it could potentially be a late stage capped die strike. Then there is some post mint damage that occurred after the coin left the mint. It would be helpful to see a higher resolution picture. A newly struck coin "sticks" to a die, causing the next coin struck to have a First Strike Mirror Brockage of the coin stuck to the die; by the second strike the mirror is distorted, and later strikes are termed Struck Through A Capped Die. The image gets so distorted after a few strikes that the Mirror image (brockage) is no longer visible but the obverse of the coin shows the effect of being struck through the metal that is stuck to the die. It may still be after mint damage but a better pic would help. I hope this helps, Bill
Bill, here are a couple higher resolution picture's 1 at 600 ~ 1 at 1200 ~ the 3rd at 2400.. hope this is what you wanted.. if not let me know and i'll try again..
I was thinking maybe a capped die strike too....part of it is damaged and it might be all but it is a cool coin for sure! Speedy
I agree with those who've diagnosed it as a capped die strike. In other words, it was struck through a late-stage obverse die cap. A nice find.
Nice Find.. Thats Great!!! That's a good thing, a very good thing, About time I found a (nice find) :thumb: Thanks You Guys.. Very Much. :smile
