Weird Indian Head cent. I added the full scan for color reference to other IHC.

Any idea why the coin color is so off the others?

Also, any idea what these are worth?

    Welcome to the forum!

The coin color of IHC coins that age can vary significantly from nickle to copper to black. The parallel lines ( scratch like) are probably from being squeezed/held in a set of pliers, most likely to grind the odd shape perhaps. Coin values differ by many factors such as condition, year, any die variety, etc. I would start with the most common expectations. Any damage such as the marks on this IHC, would make it value from copper value of 3-4 cents to a little more. Common IHC of this average grade is proably around a $ each.

To answer your question, it is a Copper-Nickel IHC. Copper-Nickel IHCs were minted 1859 to mid-1864. Beginning mid-1864 the composition was changed to bronze.

Yep. Your odd man out is a so-called "white cent", only issued for the first few years of the IHC. Too bad the date was obliterated by damage.

Are you prospecting with a metal detector? Some of your coins look dug.

Looks like the pliers were used to hold the coin while being used as a screwdriver.

You will also notice that it is significantly thicker and heavier than the other IHC. The coppernickel INC weighed 72 grains (4.8 grams) as compared to the 48 grains (3.1 grams) of the copper IHC. As a point of comparison todays five cent piece weighs 75 grains (5 grams).
