10 years and 56 items later, I can say that I am finally finished building my States Quarters First Day Covers. I can't tell you how many times I kicked my self for even collecting these, but once I start something, ya better watch out because I am going to finish it to the end! I just received my last US territory FDC cover in today and I am glad that this set is over. At the time when I started collecting these, I was really into stamps and coins. I have since sold my stamp collection and now am focusing solely on coins. So the set doesn't hold the same meaning as it once did 10 years ago. I must say that the complete set is quite impressive. Has anyone else out there collected this complete set? Is anyone trying to complete the Prez dollars FDC set???? I am working on that one now. I am trying to figure out a value to this collection, because I would like to sell it down the road. Or is this one of those sets that appreciates with age and time??? Any comments or thoughts would be great.
The hardest part was where would I store all this stuff and keep it protected. I do plan on selling it soon. I just don't know when.
That's why I unloaded the vast majority of all my Proof Sets, Mint Sets and modern silver commems a while back. It all became too much bulk. Also the reason why I dislike the amount of packaging that came with the UHR. Good luck to you when you do sell it. Do you think you will consign the whole set to TT or HA? or go out on your own?
Well I know TT only takes graded coins. I haven't seen otherwise. Heritage may be interested, but who knows. There really isn't a market for them around here. So Maybe this weekend, I will put a price together and give it a shot on here first then take it to the big leagues.
Bulk is right krispy. My mint and proof sets were taking up a whole drawer in the buffee. The wife was getting proturbed that I kept displacing all her tablecloths, like we need 8 tablecloths. Apparently we do.
Congratulations on completing the set! You may be among the few that have done so. I really liked the DC & Territorial Covers...very picturesque. Now you have to move onto the National Parks FDCs for the next 10 years. :rolling: TC
Congratulations Joe, that's a major accomplishment. On selling, you can try the "sel the set" approach but I'm concerned that you might improve your payback using a piecemeal approach. That's always the issue.
Completing the set shows tenacity. What is it worth? Probably very little. Most of the people who had an interest were building it themselves and many of them probably got tired of it and dumped theirs. The number of interested people is probably very small (Kind of like those people who want Franklin Mint silver art ingots and are willing to pay a premium over the silver value) If I was still working in a shop and someone brought that set in I'd probably offer $56 and then strip out the quarters because they are often better than average. Sorry
Makes sense to me . . . I've consciously stayed away from pretty much anything that can't fit nicely and neatly into an album . . .
Actually, I do have pics, but not a group pic. I take individual pics of ever item I own for insurance purposes. So although I do have pics, it would take me forever to upload 56 pics here. NO>NO>NO!!!!!!! I can't take it anymore. No National Parks FDCs! Please! :headbang: I am already collecting the presidential ones. Thats going to be another 10 years right there!!!! Every year I keep telling myself to stop collecting these, but the collector in me keeps going! I will keep you all posted, but I may keep them. Its one of those things that is hard to decide. One half of me wants to get rid of them.....and the other half doesn't. They don't take up too much room....Actually Bobbeth.....here are some pics of those.
I know this is an older thread but I wanted to ask about holders for these. I also collected the State quarter set of FDCCs. I wanted to put them in a binder with sleeves that are made from non PVC material. Does anyone know where I can look for something like this. I have checked some online dealers but can't find something that doesn't say plastic or can't confirm that there is no PVC. I appreciate any assistance!! Thanks!!
I have seen listing of archival quality but I'm not familiar with which companies are considered reputable in this area. Would you have any suggestions? Thanks!!
That's alot of time and effort put into that set. I would have a hard time selling it just for those reasons.
