Here is a rainbow toned 1959 proof Franklin half I picked up at the coin shop. Anyone care to guess the grade. :kewl:

Proofs can be such a pain to grade above PR65...
But, I'd go solid PR66, with a shot at PR67.

    Hey...nice coin!!!
I think I'm staying with PF66 as tops...the milkspot below the 5 in the date kills it from higher...but the toning is BU-T-Full!!

I love Proof Franklins too. But the toning on this one is super nice and unique. I would have to agree with all of the above and go with PF-66 at the very least with a definite chance of PF67 in my book.

That milkspot is an interesting question. My initial response was the same as yours, but then I wondered if this is just an attribute of the ongoing toning of the coin, and would not be viewed as a negative. In other words, untoned coin with milkspot, bad thing, toned coin with, maybe not counted against coin so much. I have not seen many graded like this, so just don't know what the impact would be.

True....most than likely the "milk spot" is a bit of saliva on the coin from a past owner...I've seen grading Co's go both ways....some lower and some OK...I have a ASE that is toned cool...but because of the Milk spots they killed the grade...down to MS66 (would have been an easy MS67/8).
So I guess you don't know untill you send it in what way they will go....Good point Richard ;)

I do believe Richard is correct about the spot. There are actually several of them on the coin. I'd grade it PF67.

I think that the ANACS choice was smart. I also prefer them.
