Just got this coin back and I wanted to try a new photo technique.

Wow. Those are probably the best pics I've ever seen on this forum. Love that 1911. You're doing everything right. It just doesn't get any better.
It's funny. Sometimes perfect photography can make things look better than they do in real life.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Thad and EyeEatWheaties, for the nice comments. (Is it okay to call you EEW? Easier to type and I mean nothing disparaging, of course.) Good observations on that Lincoln.

Anything you get from Illini will be nice. The man knows his coins, especially Lincolns, and he has some beauties.

Even though my Lincoln set is largely red, I loved the look of that 1911 when I laid eyes on it. I paid Andy Skrabalak double price guide. I don't mind doing that for very nice coins. Over time you forget what you paid (maybe, heh) but always have coins that make you happy. Nothing worse than going for the bargain and not being very happy with it, you know?

Funny thing is, in 65RD it's a $465 coin. In 66RD it's a $2350 coin. So how much is a nicer 65RD worth? Should prices always hover around $465 for a 65RD and then jump to around $2350 for a 66RD? Or should there be prices in between for nicer quality? I think the latter but then I've been wrong a lot lately.

Illini420 does indeed have a very good eye for Lincolns and quite a nice collection of them I agree.

    awesome Matte Proof, BTW

Nah, just a business strike. I keep promising myself to build a matte proof set but the VDB is daunting.

I know that this might seem out of the blue and I doubt you know why I'm posting this currently .... but, the imaging resizing is a browser specific thing that the new browsers do. I'm personally not a fan, but such is how it is. The browser is allowed to handle images anyway it choses too by HTML specs, once it sees an <IMG> tag.

I am a photographer, and the photograph is just fine. Exposure is perfect--coins are almost impossible to get a good picture, due to the reflectivity. Also, digital noise will exaggerate the slightest mark on a coin and make it look like a crater. You did well.
