How many do you usually keep in your pocket? I hear some people complain about size and weight but I personally haven't had any issues with carrying 2-3 of each at a time. What about you guys?
My dad has for decades tried to recirculate Susan B's, Sacawageas and Kennedy halves. When I was in grade school, I would pay for my lunch with Susan B's. Got some weird comments, in fact a candy store refused them one time because "they were not US currency." I'm sure they all go right back to the bank.
I use halves often. I usually keep about 10 bucks worth in my truck and use them to buy pop and chips at the quicky mart. I don't use the small dollars much.
Yeah. Its unfortunate though. Whenever I spend stuff like that I try to tell the cashier to give them Back to people in their change. But Supposedly its "rude" for cashiers to give people Halves and Dollar coins in their change.
I find them very handy for vending machines. Almost every dollar bill I get is worn and tattered and feels like its gonna fall apart in my hand. At the end of the day, I stick all the ones in an envelope and at the end of the week I go to the bank and trade them in for dollar coins. Been doing this for a while.
Yes I use USD halves in most transactions (I just ask my bank to keep them in stock—no problem), but Ikes are rather difficult to find in any quantity—just a few here and there. The weight of them are no different than the same value of dimes and quarters, so that's not a problem. I also use $1 coins (US Mint Direct Ship) and crisp uncirculated $2 bills a bit more than normal. I carry about 6 of each at a time, unless I think I will have different needs.
i would love it if a cashier gave me a half or dollar coin for change. i try to spend halves and dollar coins as often as i can.
I don't carry any change at all. Plastic makes all my purchases whenever I get out. The only coin I get are the rolls I buy from the bank. And I often wonder if coins will cease to be minted within my lifetime ? gary
I can't get IKes or halves in this area. At least everybody knows what a small dollar is now. They just don't know where to put them in the cash register. They call the manager over to show them where to put them.
local store dude holds things for me like any dollar or halves. the was in my change tonight. ugly bit but oh well enough of these and i can perhaps turn into something else
I have a few different banks I check for halves and Ikes. Been really lucky at about 3 of the 8 banks I go to. I like to spend a few here and there at various places. Most of the younger clerks have never seen one before and don't know what they are. Most clerks and waitresses buy the coins right then and there for themselves and tell me thanks because they want to save them. I know you guys have heard this a million times, but in my case, it actually is true........I have much better luck getting halves and Ikes in small town banks.
