I hope some of you are still up out there, because I need help with this one and it is keeping me up wondering about it. Any and all help will be appreciated. Trying to keep this simple... looks like large 1970-S, except when I look at the tapering of the insider curl of the 9, it looks more like the tapered version in the small 1970-S. Also, the LIBERTY looks too distinct to be a small 1970-S, but the since this thing looks like it is doubled all over, the doubling would strengthen an otherwise weak LIBERTY. The mint mark looks like the repunched N/S version. Then for the reverse. I cannot find any reference for this coin, as the photos show doubling all over the reverse. Thank you and I appreciate all feedback.
Honestly I cant believe you did not find any reference concerning the 70-s....There are weekly questions concerning this and so I am going out on a limb and think you didnt use the search function or else you would have seen the below link hundreds of times. http://lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html the 70-s you have is a Large Date
Thank you for your thoughts, however, I did read a lot of information and that is why I wrote that I think it is a large date, but noting the differences with the nine. I also noted the clarity of LIBERTY instead of the weaker one as with small date. I also noted what I thought about the mintmark. In fact, if you could see my computer history, you would know that I went to the exact page you noted at lincolncentreresource several times (as well as many other resources, including coppercoins, varietyvista, etc.) However, I am unable to find any info. about the doubling I see on the reverse.
Personally, I think you have a large date with machine ejection doubling which makes it appear to be a small date. However, given the quality of photograph, it also appears to be a small date over a large date (as indicated by the date) but LIBERTY in IN GOD WE TRUST should also have some thickening which I do not see. Clearer photographs are an absolute must in this case.
Okay, let's give these photos a try. The liberty is upside down also, because it is easier to see the doubling at the bottom of the letters. This is one of the hardest coins I have had to photograph. Please lelt me know how these look and any other thoughts. Thank you.
Your pictures are still fuzzy with no clear definition. I'd suggest you forward it to someone for professional examination such as CONECA at http://conecaonline.org/attribution_services.html
thank you for your input. This thing is just so shiny that no matter what I do I get reflection...even without any flash. The reduced light causes the pictures to blur....frustrating. Someday, I'll be able to afford a better camera.
