Hey gang! One of my employees picked this coin out of our 90% and showed it to me. I know there are known 1956 D/D quarters. It almost looks like a D/S to me with the curved live off the top right of the Mintmark... Thoughts?
You are the expert, so I'm way out of my league, but since I see what you are talking about, I went and looked up the font for that year to see if the S would fit. I could not find that any were minted with "S" in 1956 (last ones in 1954). No font noted at varietyvista and not on list at coinfacts.
Good catch Di, last S minted quarter was indeed in 1954. I agree with Condor it looks to have been mashed. There maybe a die chip there also.
It's in my files as 1956-D 25c CRPM-001, in CONECA's files as RPM#1 and it is in the Cherrypickers' Guide as FS-501 (formerly FS-022.4) exhibiting a "D over inverted D" repunched mintmark variety. Congrats on the find! Regards, Billy (dvn)
