67 - 22 66 - 26D 65 - 34D 64 - 34S 63 - 23 That 22 is just amazing. I am putting a collection of peace dollars together and I am so jealous
Lance, great post. Here are my guesses: 22- MS67 23 - MS63 26D- MS64 34D- MS65 34S- MS66 Great design but I've always heard it's a frustrating series to collect.
22 - 67 26D - 66 23S - 65 34D - 64 34S - 63 The two 34's can be switched, they both have marks on the neck, but the 34S also has some hits on the "O" of Dollar and above it, so that would give it a lower grade (I think). I would love to have any of them. Nice!
I was just informed that the winner of this contest will get all 5 Peace Dollars free! (just kidding ... )
1926d - MS67 1934d - MS66 1922 - MS65 1923s - MS64 1934s - MS63 I found these very hard to do because the strike quality of the obverse doesn't match the quality of the reverse. How in the world do they do that...give the obverse a quality number, add the reverse quality number, and divide by 2?
My first shot at grading Peace Dollars...here we go. I know nothing of grading them. 67 - 22 66 - 34s 65 - 26d 64 - 34d 63 - 23s Cool coins. I have never seen a MS67 peace dollar in hand. It must be a real Gem. Any MS67 "big coins" are always amazing. Sure beats looking at a MS67 dime...
The 22-67 26-66 34d-65 34s-64 23- 63 That 22 is so nice. That is a sweet grading set you put together. I would bet that getting the lower grades will be much harder should you consider doing it.oP
The obverse carries more weight than the reverse. Years ago, in the days of ANACS photo-certs let's say, the obverse and reverse would be graded separately. Yes, Peace dollars are difficult, harder than Morgans, e.g. The design is pretty, I think. But the highest devices on the obverse and reverse are directly opposite so there are strike issues. Lance.
Thanks Lance, I was not aware of that. The Peace dollars have always been one of my favorites, but very difficult to judge. Your '34s is really nice, and must be worth a mint. I believe that coin has become the hardest Peace to find in MS condition. Chuck
Another winner!!! A Lincoln guy aced the Peace dollar test. I guess if you can grade copper you can grade anything! LOL. Congrats on the early, correct answer rls. In grade order: 1922 MS67 1926-D MS66 1934-D MS65 1923-S MS64 1934-S MS63 I suppose everyone is a little tired of "here are the coins, here are the grades, now put them in order". So I'll give it a rest. Maybe more later. Indian Head Cents, Commemoratives, half dollars? Lance.
I only missed the last two and looking back I still think from the pictures that the 34S is better then the 23S Nice set Lance.
I was beginning to wander about that 34-S. Everyone else seemed to think better of it, but it did not have the luster of the others. TPG's seem to count that a lot.
