I've had this 1951 Canadian nickel for about 5 or 6 years. I had read about a variety for that year but the only info I found was that if the "A" in "GRATIA" was pointing to a denticle, then it was worth up to $1400, so I set it aside and waited to find out more about it. A couple days ago I took another look at it and researched it on the internet (didn't have that back then). I found 5 articles about it, one mentioned the 2nd "A" needed to be pointing at the denticle. I examined mine again and was overjoyed to find I had the rare variety! Or so I thought. On the 5th article I read about the Commemorative for that year... and, looking at my coin, I realized I had that... and not the (now $2000 to $3000) variety. In the 5 or 6 years since I had looked at it last, I focused on the possibility of the variety identified on the obverse, and completely ignored the reverse ...until that 5th article. And the only book I had on it didn't mention the Commemorative version with the regular issue, though it did list it some 20 or so pages later on. Sometimes you miss things, you know? (laughs) A friendly (and sad) reminder to us all...
