Can anyone give me an idea as to the value of my James Madison error coin? It's a very unique coin as far as I can determine... It's a CLIP error and the pics best explain it. I've been searching for over a month to find a comparable to determine a value but have been unable to do so. With limited exception, the only errors (as most of you probably know better than I) are commonly edge lettering issues, especially the Washington coin and I look forward to your feedback and direction regarding it's value. Thanks for you help!
Hi Scott , welcome to the forum! I removed your other thread from error coin forum, as only 1 thread on the same subject is allowed. Thanks, Jim
Wow!! That is one cool clip. Being that this coin is a presidential dollar, with edge lettering, I'd say it would be close to maybe $50-75, maybe more. I think I remember a quincy adams with a clip on ebay a while ago,(it was ngc graded) and I think it went for about $80-$100, but im not quite sure. Nice coin; Did you find it in a roll?
Ultralight, Thank You! I didn't find it in a roll though... To be straight up I got it from a vending machine at work after deliberately putting in a dollar just for the return change to check for something like this (I know how stupid this sounds ha ha). I'm just a casual collector mostly interested in error coins after reading Ken Potter's book "Strike it Rich" I'm hoping it's worth more however. I took it to one coin shop who offered me $300 for it but I declined because there really is nothing to compare it to. I'll have to try to find that Adams you're talking about - it would be a great place for me to start. Thanks again for the reply and info!
