For those of you who listen to the podcast. (My sig line and/or the player to the right side of the site.) You will know that I loathe the 5oz hockey pucks... or at least I did till I got my hands on one. You know these really are pretty nifty coins. The thing about them that draws me to them is NOT the design... but the size. As someone who has studied US coins the majority of my life I really like these coins because they are the BIGGEST coins ever made at the US mint. I also noted that the signature of the ACTING mint director was included on the paperwork. I got my Hot springs in the box today and I wanted to share a few pics. Enjoy!
Any lines between the letters of 'springs'. There is a poll going on over in the bullion side about this. Jon edit add: You are right, they sure are heavy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful photos, beautiful coin! I just got mine today, too, but have not opened it yet.. Perhaps this evening I will. Lucy
Okay, here's a shot of both versions, under as identical lighting conditions I could achieve given the different holders. The bullion coin is in a PCGS slab, and the "collector's" coin is in the Mint plastic.
Very, very nice. I too have paid little attention to the hoopla, and never thought I'd buy one. I'm not much of a modern collector. But I'm very glad I purchased the gold UHR and this Hot Springs ATB. I think they represent the best the Mint has done in recent years. Lance.
Has anyone else noticed that the bottom of the fountain looks like a pair of Homer Simpson's pants? IMHO.
After getting it, I liked the Hot Springs Unc P coin more than I thought I would. I have the 5 coin bullion set coming from Apmex soon. It'll be graded by PCGS as BU or a MS grade. I may have to collect all the Unc 5 oz. P coins. I'll just have to budget it in.
Very Nice coin Dutch! My one unit is exactly same and likely a perfect coin. I do plan to keep mine in OGP, which is very classy. Can't imagine why folks are getting plastic caskets for these???
I have yet to see one of these in person. I was skeptical at first, but I think I will pick up one of the Mt. Hood issues. I am currently living in Portland, Oregon and when I walk to school everyday I have a beautiful view of the mountain.
