I have spend a very long time researching and collecting 3 phases of a die break. I did my best to capture the images but they are all 1987 P pennies. Each one has the distinguishing dimple that indicates from the same damaged die. Hope you enjoy. If I am incorrect please indicate how. I mean it took me a while to find and purchase in these stages and try and assure the same die.
I think those are awesome. Nice progression of a cud. Have you found any other die markers such as a die gouge, a common heavier die scratch?
Yes, there is a teardrop shape at the cud that is identical in each coin. I will find and hook up my better microscope to give a close up.
These are the teardrops found at the edge of each coins cud. Now that can be no coincidence right? One is upside down. My apologies. Lost part to good microscope.
Nice job. I have found several cases where I could positively say that coins came from the same die and progression of crack is obvious. It does take a lot of work.
1987 Cents have some great looking cuds. Lincoln Cent Cuds; 1986 – 1988 : Cuds on Coins (cuds-on-coins.com)
Very nice. Your hard work paid off and for us too because it’s rare we get to see them all together like this. Your pictures could be better I hate to say but still they show the progression without a doubt.
Very nice. It's tough finding intermediate die stages for die breaks, chips, cuds, etc. I try finding them in roll searches. I've photographed a few of my die progression finds and done animations to show how they progress. You can do the same by shooting each coin in the same lighting conditions (no 2x2's) and then animating the result. I can help if you need. You can see some of mine here: http://www.macrocoins.com/progressions.html
You are awesome. I barely can use my computer and microscope properly. Late bloomer to technology. I type with two fingers. I am very new to photography. I have been using my old Canon powershot for everything from photos to video. Heck my phone is android and about 8 years old. I found an error on a quarter and will post a photo. Weird, looks like an extra nostril on the cow 2004 philly quarter..
