I sell coins from a counter at a local antique mall. Recently two unrelated young collectors (in their 20's) were looking at my commemoratives (both classic and modern). One collector purchase a 1926-s Oregon Trail. I pointed out the Modern commemorative silver dollars and both collectors commented that they decided not to collect them because there are too many military themes. Now I read, in Coin World that most of the planned commemoratives over the next few years are military themes. I understand commemorating our military, but have we gone too far?
I initially voted yes but now that I look at my list I would like to change my vote to no. There are lots of other commems that are not military in nature. Lincoln, Franklin, Braille, Jamestown, etc etc. It might seem that way b/c the last few have all have a military theme. Even the Boy Scouts has them saluting which puts you in the mind of a Military theme.
There's military there as well, one of the pairs of legs belongs to one of the National Guard soldiers.
It's still a stupid commem, and a two-year old with fingerpaint could have come up with a better design. Chris
