the funniest thing about how the bald guy (sorry i forgot his name) always has an expert friend. Some one can bring in the most random obscure thing and he always has a friend
Yep... just made to look real. Everything that comes in there is scripted. Reality shows are the farthest from reality. Still, it's interesting.
Very interesting thread. I love the show and figured I'd stop by the shop next time I'm in L.V. I'm not so sure now. Do they have a lot of interesting items for sale? Any good deals, or are they tourist prices?
Well, read some of these reviews. They vary wildly, so be sure to scroll through the list. Then make your decision. http://www.yelp.com/biz/gold-and-silver-pawn-shop-las-vegas
They got their list of experts, but when no one else knows, they call in the curator of the museum in Las Vegas. This guy seems to know everything. How much brains is under that goofy straw hat he wears?
Apparently Mark Hall-Patton the Curator of Clark County Heritage Museum in Las Vegas knows quite a lot about many things. In one episode he is called to come in and help out with some possible NASA souvenirs...he walks in, sees what is on the counter and immediately says without hesitation, "Oh, a portion of the heat shield from Apollo XIII" and proceeded to tell the harrowing ordeal of this ill fated flight. Now, this may have been scripted but it does attest to his vast knowledge of the obscure.
I googled the Clark County Heritage Museum. There is no official web site, just mentions of it in the tourist sites. I google mapped it. It's small. The parking lot is small, and the building is smaller than the parking lot. They specialize in the history of southern Nevada. I guess they have exhibits in different hotels in town. It only costs a buck fifty for adults. They get good reviews. Still, I have a hard time believing that the curator knows anything about heat shields and D-Day battle plans.
Clark County Museum isn't a single building. It's an assortment of many building across the county. What you Googled was more than likely their office. Guy
To be fair, just because he might not need that knowledge for his job doesn't mean he doesn't have it. Many of us have a lot of knowledge we don't use in the course of our day to day employment. I was a history major myself and I can tell you that no matter how much you know about many different things, that doesn't mean it's easy to translate that into employment that makes the most of your knowledge.
Yeah but at least you could think about meeting Danielle.lol It's too bad about Pawn Stars, I was thinking about taking two of my guitars there just to see if they really knew guitars and what they'd give me. Not gonna happen now!
This reminds me of my youth. We had this kid in the neighborhood who watched a lot of t.v., Emergency, Adam 12, etc. and always was telling us how he's going to L.A. to meet Johnny Gage, Roy Desoto, Pete Malloy, and Jim Reed (characters of the aforementioned shows from the 70s played by Randolph Mantooth, Kevin Tighe, Martin Milner, and Kent McCord). Too funny!
True ! I do imagine the gentleman must be quite a history buff and very highly educated and well read. Of course he knows an awful lot about the Nuclear Program since so much of the development and testing was right here, as well as Area 51, etc. It's also possible, that given a "heads up" on items he was to view for the show, that he did his homework. I haven't had the chance to ever meet the man, but certainly would consider it an honor to do so.
You can't forget Dragnet! My favorite one was when some teen held a bunch of kids in some backyard hostage with a live grenade in his hand - he had serious demands.. "This is my party now, and you're all invited, we're all gonna stand here and listen to the music until I say to stop! I'm in charge now, you got that?!"
