Good evening, I am not an avid collector and mostly collect silver as an investment and whatnot. However, I have this bag of foreign coins that I have been tossing coins into for years. I went through it the other day just looking at the neat things I've picked up over the years or have been given and I came across this coin. I have had it for many years but I can never seem to be able to accurately identify it and I hope someone can help. Thanks for your time!
Ancient coin from Judaea of the Bar Kokhba War (AD 132-135), however it might be a recent imitation. How big is it and what metal does it appear to be?
It would be my luck for it to be an imitation/reproduction. I thought maybe it was silver but it doesn't have that nice clear chime when struck. It is kind of heavy, definitely not aluminum or tin or some other really light base metal.
There is modern Hebrew on it, seems like it says "Jerusalem" on the side with the tree. Coins of that age did not have modern letters, it looks like tourists replica.
Ahh.. thanks! I'll toss it back in my bag-o-junk instead of putting it with my maybe-valuable stuff. I greatly appreciate the info guys!
