Im going on the bank run of all bank runs tomorrow. Not sure how many miles I will put on but I am going to hit as many banks as I can from 9 am to 6 30 pm. Not just looking for halves either because I dont think I will find any anyhow. Mostly in search of quarters and nickels. Will post tomorrow after I am done opening all the rolls

Getting halves today, first box from same bank, skunk. Hopefully this is different. Also, a few weeks ago I found a very, very shiny/clean '62 roosie. This thing looks like a 2011 at a glance, no flaws, very mirrored like finish.

However, on the back (not on the entire back, but in one spot towards the edge), there appears to be a clear "dried glue" like substance stuck on it, very hard to see, but you can feel it. At first, it appeared to be like a cement glue, but I could not pick it off w/ my nails. Any suggestions on how to get that off safely?

Also, a dime like that, if the stuff were to come off, is it even worth trying to grade it? I would hate to go to all that trouble just to find out its graded and valued at $6 :\ ....any help would be appreciated.

I have been doing some roll searching and really want to try getting a box. What do you do with all the coins after you search them because it seems to me you probably don't take them back to the bank you got them from. Do you just pick a bank to be your dump bank and then never get rolls from there? I maybe want to get a box of dimes this afternoon but first I need to know what to do after I search them. Thanks for any help!

I'd take care of it. Just go get some high-quality 100% acetone (You'll need it down the road, I'm sure) and let the dime soak in it for 30-40 minutes, then try using a toothpick to take the glue off... if it's not coming off easy, drop it back in clean acetone and wait longer, maybe a couple hours. Repeat until it does come off. Don't let the acetone evaporate, though, keep it covered.

I did my first search in weeks; I searched through $100 in nickels and $250 in dimes. Here's what I found:

*34 early Jeffersons (Oldest was a 1939. The most interesting find was a 1946-S, the first one I found in circulation).
    *Three silver Roosevelts: 1962-D, 1963, 1964-D.
*Six Canadian nickels and three Canadian dimes.

    A tad bit:eek:ff-topic:
Its funny that 99% of the time I go thur a few rolls of nickles I always find 5-10 per roll 1964-P&D .
also I find 64's in change I get too.I guess that why a MS-67FS is so rare they minted so many in 64 but not a lot of high grade ones.

Poor strikes, die erosion (They beat the crap out of the '64 dies) and massive production is why it's hard to find gems. I was reading somewhere that most of the FS earlier dates are slightly overweight planchets... just barely enough more metal added to the planchet to cause the details to strike up much better, but not to be rejected as an overweight planchet..

Yeah, if you look through this thread a bit, you'll find some tips. But yes, don't dump where you pick up coin. Pick a different branch, or even better, a different bank chain. To dump them, I use a bank with a coin counting machine, but you may need to roll them back up if you can't find that. With dimes, though, if you're just looking for silver, you won't really even have to unroll them (if they're the clear plastic rolls).

From another bank, I found my first silver halves in over a month; a '64 Kennedy and a '66 Kennedy. I also finally found a Glacier quarter for my folder.

Just picked up a contaminated box of dimes, 2011's all over the place.

Ugh! That's what I'm hoping to avoid today. I've never had much success with them in the past, but all the talk of dimes on here has made me give them a try again. Picking up 2 boxes on the way home today.

I go to the same bank to pick up boxes and drop them off. They have a coin counter and I asked where the coins went. They told me they go straight to the fed. I told them I didn't wanna come back and get the exact same coins as last time. They said that wouldn't happen. Lucky me!

    Don't dump where you eat.

    Box was a skunk.
