Roll searching today I've found what I believe might be a 2008 Double Die.. upon first examining with a loupe I saw what appeared to be a die clash error. (I think that's what it's called) Excited about the possible interesting error I began taking pictures of it with my Dino-Lite. Then a more interesting possibility showed up. I have posted pictures of what first caught my eye. Then focused on what appears to be doubling. After realizing this could be a DD I went back to my loupe to see if I could see the "what appears to be" doubling. It is noticeable very well with a loupe but mostly on the "S" in TRUST. First picture shows what looks like a die clash. Portions of "IN GOD WE TRUST" can be seen coming from the die clash.. hope that makes sense In this picture I circled a portion of a letter showing. the letters are seen throughout but hard to capture clearly in photos Then I zoomed in so I could post better pictures for you guys to help me identify the coin as a die clash when I noticed what appears to be doubling. Here's a picture of the portion of letters again: well, then my focus kinda changed to the letters with what I think may be doubling. have a look and please help me. Is this a 2008 double die? thanks for your help guys!
I don't think that's MD, I think that's a DDO. Is doubling evident anywhere else on the obverse? EDIT: Looked again, changed my mind... I think it's MD... and that's my final answer.
I'd tend to agree with them. I have quite a few MDs (100+) and find those field marks you indicated on most of mine as well. It's (the marks) are probably the result from something like a loose die, it moves more than it should and the marks are probably a sign of that. *not an expert though so just my guess as to why*
disregard the DDO. what do you think about the portions of letters showing up I circled in red? is this a die clash error? what kind of error is this? thanks..
I don't see any die clash from what I can make see in these pic's.but I could missing what you are seeing
Just minor die gouges I think, no big deal. I've pulled some pretty sweet die gouges to keep that were way bigger and longer than that.
I have really cut back on posting coins here. I prefer to keep believing they are MS 67's, and all the scratches are errors.
the old saying goes "the truth hurts" but it is what it is.. if I already know what error I have I usually don't like to post it cuz it WILL get rather slammed but ones I'm unsure of I ask about.. if they get slammed, it don't really bother me. I just keep on keeping on with my loupe!! hehe
Who is your avatar, by the way? Keep looking for those DD's... They're not out there much, but they sure are fun to find. I've only found a few because I generally only check a few dates of cents for varieties.
my avatar? are you referring to my photo? oh trust me, I'm looking. This week I found 2 ddo 1972's.. REAL nice doubling but there's no doubling on the date so I think they're the min. valued ones. Still sweet looking! I try to go through a box of pennies a day but sometimes I get too busy and only do about 4 boxes a week..
Yeah, your photo that shows next to your post. That's you? Interesting. I found one of those '72's you're talking about, DDO #3. Killer doubling, but not the valuable one. Here's the link I use to check out varieties for certain dates; http://coppercoins.com/advsearch.php I also try to do a box a day, usually ends up more like 3-5 a week depending on how hard I hit nickels, dimes and halves, though.
yes, that's me.. I took it a few days ago on my birthday.. awesome, I will go save/check out the link.. yes! killer doubling on mine as well... I'm always always always going through coins.. I get boxes from my bank and then dump them at my local coin star when I'm done.. I think the walmart workers think I'm a pan handler! They look at me so funny lmao..
Happy belated birthday! Also, Coinstar? You might wanna try to find a local bank that'll take your change via a counting machine, coinstar charges pretty high premiums, especially if you move up from cents to other stuff.
