I would appreciate any grade and value opinions regarding the following coins. US coins around here are not trivial, especially with only 1 coin dealer in my city, so i am not sure if they`re junk and worth melt value of about $16 USD, or are they more valuable than that. 1912 nickel, looks cleaned but no obvious harsh cleaning marks. Weight is, for some reason, 5.2g, instead of 5g. There is some wear, so it is even weirder. 1919 dime, not sure if its cleaned, looks just like circulation patina
Just a few more: 1923 dime, obverse showing what i think is PMD, big mark in the center. 1914 barber dime
Those marks on the back of the dime make me nervous, because they remind me of the marks I've been seeing on images of Chinese counterfeits. They could be legitimate damage, but I've just been bitten, and now I'm perhaps over-cautious. Don't know what to say about the nickel, except that 4% over-weight is pretty surprising. Can you check the scale with near-uncirculated local coinage of known weight?
These coins are genuine. The quarter is XF/AU details lightly cleaned. The 1914 dime is VF details cleaned. The 1923 dime is F details damaged. The 1919 is VF details scratched The nickel is F details cleaned. I would not consider the quarter junk silver but the other coins I would. I would say the quarter is worth $25-$35 with it's issues.
LostDutchman: Thanks a lot. jeffB: My scale is showing correct weights for other coins shown here and for other BU coins i checked.
What marks on the back of the dime? All I see are big marks on the front of a dime, which were probably made by an old-fashioned rolling/counting machine. I have a few dimes that were ruined that way.
