With the tightening of the grading companies lately towards color I want to start this poll. Will the grading companies bag this coin as AT? I am going to be sending it in my next order and we will see what they have to say. What are your thoughts in the meantime?

In my mind this coin looks perfectly natural. I also think that coins in this series which have remained unmolested should look like this. I have seen many buff's with that nice golden color, but the blues i am not so sure of. Don't the "doc's" usually tone big coins like morgan's in an attempt to distract the collector from other issues like hairlines or authenticity? I do not see anything hiding on this coin. It looks very lustrous and , although not fully struck, this is also not unusual for buffalo nickels from the d or s mints. Nice coin matt, and i hope it earns the 65 * or + that it deserves.

That's a toughy. My personally feeling is that it is NT. Back to your question though, my guess is NGC will slab this, but PCGS may not. Beautiful nickel by the way. The progression of colors around the rim look right, but the purple/blue may be brought into question.

I really like the colors and feel the progression looks normal so I went with they will grade.

I say it's 100% market acceptable toning and natural. However, I have to error on the side of caution with the TPG's because they have demonstrated a very conservative policy with toned or "altered" color coins......whether they truly are or not. Honestly, I'm shocked that Charmy gets so many though. I've seen her post slabbed coins that normally would be rejected. I guess it pays to rub elbows with that at the shows. LOL

Looks natural to me, but even if it wasn't you couldn't tell the difference. But to submit it for grading - why ? The coin has a terrible strike, and was struck with badly eroded dies. On top of that it's got contact marks all over the place, especially the reverse. If it were me, I could grade it no higher than 63.

Are you counting on a bump for the color or is this just a test ?

I just want to test the TPG's I want to send in a coin which I think is a no brainer NT... and see what they do. They have been slamming colored stuff lately.

I like it, would enjoy owning it and feel it is probably NT. I hope I am wrong but I think NGC and PCGS will reject it for questionable color. They seem to require a certain progressive look or pattern to the toning. When there's any doubt they err on the conservative side. It sucks.

I'll guess PCGS would grade it 64. Great looking coin.

I think it has beautiful color and looks completely natural to me. I would think it would slab.

Edit: I voted wrongly in the poll though. I didn't fully read the question and I thought it was "would this grade?" so I put yes instead of realizing if you were asking if it would reside in a body bag...so I should have put no. So, go ahead and mentally move one vote to No...as I don't think even my new mod powers can fix this one. :D

Nice coin that should make its way into a slab graded at least 65, I expect.
