Hello there I have two German coins in my position now for some time and i've been wondering what they are and if there worth anything. I've searched for awhile now to find out what they are but I have had no joy cause i've not much knowledge in this area so any help is appreciated Thank you. P.S. Sorry about low quality images they were taken on my camera phone. Coin1; front: Johannes Gutenberg + 1468 Coin1; Back: Gutenberg Museum der Stadt Mainz 1000 Coin2; front: Volksfürsorge Deutsche Sachversicherung AG. 50Jahre Coin2; Back: 1925-1975 only thing i have found out is the 2nd coin translates into people care insurance so could be a memorial coin of some company not to sure
They are not coins but medals the 1st issued by the Gutenburg museum in Mainz and the second is for the 50th anniversary of the People welfare service German insurance against material damage Hope that helps oh and they are quite nice as well
More about the Gutenberg Musem is here: http://www.gutenberg-museum.de/ That medal is probably from 1968, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of his birth. It shows a printing press and the CoA of Mainz, so I guess it was issued by the city. (Both Germanies, so to say, also issued coins on that occasion.) The Volksfürsorge was founded in 1913, originally as an insurance for workers and closely connected to the trade unions. That changed later, and today Volksfürsorge is part of the Generali Group. The 1925-1975 jubilee apparently refers to the Sachversicherung (property insurance) branch. The CoA is that of the city of Hamburg; guess that is where that insurance company has or had its seat. Oh, and the "1000" will refer to the silver content. That Mainz medal should be pure silver then ... Christian
