Have any other collectors out there tried to place ads either in a newspaper or online to purchase coins? If so, do you get a good response? Are you able to obtain anything decent to add to your collection, or is it not usually worth your time? Thanks in advance for your answers.

It would be a bit dangerous IMO to advertise on Craigslist or similar as a buyer....you don't really want the people coming to your house and going there can be a setup. Maybe meet at a library or something ?

I have bought/sold tons of stuff on CL. Meet at Barnes and Noble, most of the time. They've got long hours, and there's usually a good amount of people there.

That still doesn't make it a good idea. It's pretty easy for somebody to follow you home.

If you want to advertise on-line then use the areas set aside for it on the various forums, and there's plenty of them to choose from.

Personally, I'd advise anybody to stick with trusted and respected dealers. You can do that much easier and do it on-line.

CL is fine, just don't go right home, that simple, and make sure nobody is following you.

Just because you've been lucky so far that doesn't mean it's just fine. And if somebody wants to follow you home and not let you know they are - you won't.

It's just fine to go to coin shows too, but collectors and dealers alike get robbed at them all the time.

Absoutely right! Craigslist is a great place to buy some silver coins but terrible to sell. Keep in mind that many ppl have been ripped off trying to sell on Craigs. Craigs is only for buying coins and you definitely gotta watch out. :thumb:

Meh, I have never had an issue and don't think I ever will. As long as you're careful, you should be fine.
