1868 3 Cnet Nickel

    I just Bought a 3 cent Nickel and the dealer sold it to me for 12 dollars but he sold it 2 me as silver is it really silver?

    Yes, it could be. Check the link above.

    It might be wise to invest in a Red Book to study coins before you buy them. The values in the Red Book are just guides so don't take them as gospel. However, there is a lot of good information in it to educate you before spending any money.

    A 3CS looks nothing like a 3CN. 3CS has a star on the obverse. 3CN has Liberty on the obverse. 3CS has a Roman Numeral 3 (III) inside a large 'C' on the reverse. 3CN has a Roman Numeral 3 (III) inside a wreath on the reverse. 3CS is much smaller (14 mm) than 3CN (17.9 mm).

    1868 3CS is a rare coin and worth several hundred dollars even in low grades. 1868 3CN is a common coin and worth about what you paid.
