I thought it was interesting and it looks real. Even if they aren't "s" mints the two end coins sell for $22 a pop judging by their condition. What do you guys think? http://cgi.ebay.com/LINCOLN-WHEAT-CENT-PENNY-ROLL-1909-VDB-BOTH-ENDS-/250809896214?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3a656f4d16#ht_500wt_950
Just curious....how does he know they're 1909's and if he's opened the roll to check, how does he not know if there is a 1909 S VDB in it?
Thats the thing, there's no way of knowing since its a bank wrapped roll. In the description it says that theres a possibility of an "S" mint but can't promise it. He at least knows its a 1909 because that was the only year that it had the initials V.D.B on the back.
Ah yeah, I knew that... My skepticism jumped ahead of my memory. Thanks for pointing that out, gmaster.
I wouldn't risk it. There is no way to know that this roll is anything. Rolls can easily be wrapped like that outside of a bank. I'll bet there is nothing nice between those 2 (P) VDBs.
The roll does not look early 20th Century, there was no Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco until 1913 and he sold another one a couple weeks ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=250803157488&si=vU1bbOq%252BbJFTvi143oa5p%252BdCNxo%253D&viewitem= He's not the only one, either: http://cgi.ebay.com/OBW-ROLL-LINCOL...=250803157488&ps=63&clkid=8853108105685683406
